A Gentle Whisper...

Over the years I have discovered that writing can be rather difficult at times. One minute you might have a great idea for a story or post, then when you set down to write nothing.... just silence. And you know what, that's okay. It is often in those quite moments that we hear God's voice the loudest. Now I'm not saying that when its quite you are going to hear an audible voice from the sky talking to you. No, more often then not you feel a gentle tug at your spirit or a friend comes to you with a message you needed at that moment.

There are so many instances within scripture that we see this play out, one of my favorite is found in 1 Kings 19:11-12,

"Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper."

I love this passage of scripture.

So often we look for God in the big things and forget that he is there even in the small seemingly unimportant moments. It wasn't in the crazy times that Elijah  heard God, it was in the gentle whisper after the crazy. I think this is true even today, we look at the crazy not the calm. When more often than not it is in those quite moments we hear the gentle whisper.

We get so caught up in the chaos, that we forget that in those quiet moments we can find the most peace and rest. Being completely honest and a little vulnerable, I haven't done the best job of this lately. It can be so hard to remind yourself to sit in the silence and rest in the goodness of God. Life is busy and fast paced, it doesn't wait for us to catch our breath. Life continues to go on, one step after another. Chaos can quickly surround us, but so can the gentle whisper.

I've been so caught up with the craziness of life that I find myself leaning into this reminder today as well. Rest, peace, and so much growth can be found in the gentle whisper friends. I hope you take a few minutes to rest in it.

Much love friends,

Alianna
