I know I've mentioned this in the past, but I'm gonna mention it again. Lately the concept of moments becoming memories and the impact those moments leave behind has been on my mind. It got me thinking about how we never really know what the impact of any given moment may be until it has come and gone. Our actions and words all carry so much weight and a significance that we often overlook.
"Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." - Dr. Seuss
Everything we walk through in our lives has the potential to either be the building block of incredible memories or it just may be the very memory that keeps us from moving forward. Scripture is adamant that the power of life and death is in the tongue. Our words and even thoughts are able to build others up or destroy them in a matter of minutes. It has always been crazy to me just how effected we can be by the words of those around us. Which is why it is so important you choose your friends and your circle wisely. Someone I look up to once told me, "show me your friends, I'll show you your future". A lesson I'll never forget, and I hope you take these words to heart as well.
We've talked about this a lot and I want to reiterate it once again. You are not defined by the people around you or the things you have or don't have. You are defined by what God says about you and who He says that you are. You are loved, wanted, cherished, called, a child of God, and you are always enough! I love the quote I shared a few weeks ago, "popular opinion does not override the purpose of God".
"The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will be forgotten." - Proverbs 10:7
Our words carry so much weight and the impact of those words and the actions associated with them will likely stick with us for years to come and for some of those words and actions the memories that will follow we stick with not only us, but the people around us. When I tell you to be mindful of the words you speak and your actions, I'm not doing it to upset you our say I got it all figured out cause I don't. I'm constantly learning, same as all of you. Life is hard and messy and yet so beautiful.
"Words may show a man's wit, but actions his meaning." -Benjamin Franklin
I'm sure over the years you have probably heard it said at one point that your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions and so on until the values you form begin to shape the future of your life. I think this hold some truth when you begin to understand that our thoughts and actions are weighty and have the power to build and to destroy in seconds. I hope that we all take the time to be builders instead of joining the demolition team.
"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions, your actions become your habits. Your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - Gandhi
I want to challenge you all this week to take some time to think about the words you are speaking and the impact they may have on those around you.
You have a God-given uniqueness!
