Where Your Treasure is, so is your Heart: Where is your Treasure?

There is a theme that can be seen within the Bible that shows us that where our treasure is there our heart will be also. This theme in a way paints a picture for us that shows the things we treasure hold our heart. Keeping that in mind, I have a question for you friends. Where is your heart?

Friend I want to make sure you understand the importance of this topic. Our treasures hold immense weight on our heart and being. The desires of our hearts are rooted within the things that we treasure. In our loud and noise filled world distractions are constantly surrounding us, so much so that it can be so easy to let our attention be stolen from the things we should be focusing on. Things that can quickly become a treasure in our lives that steals our focus and takes us away from the plan God has for our Lives.

I love the reminder Jesus gives us in Matthew 6:21,

“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart also will be” (NLT).

We are reminded within the pages of the Bible to prioritize treasures in heaven, instead of earthly treasures. Earthly treasures will fade away and eventually decay, but heavenly treasures are eternal and will continue to endure.

Friend, I want to remind you that God is the ultimate treasure!

“I rejoice in your word like one who discovers a great treasure” (Psalms 119:162, NLT).

This is my prayer for you friends, that you would store up the Word of God in your heart like a treasure. That you would treat it like a treasure worth more than gold. I want to remind you that the Word of the Lord will never return void or empty, it is living and active today just like it was in Bible times. The Word of the Lord is a strong tower, it is constant and never changing. The Word of God is a treasure we can hide in our hearts. When we do it will not only fill up and shape who we are, it will begin to overflow from our  hearts.

“Wise people treasure knowledge, but the babbling of a fool invites disaster” (Provers 10:14, NLT).

Let the Word of God be your treasure friends. Hide the Word of God in your heart, so that it will overflow in your life. I remember when I was sixteen and given the diagnosis that I had cancer. I was scared. Let’s be real for a minute, I was completely terrified of all the unknowns. Yet, in that moment when I received that phone call, I felt the peace of God wash over me. A peace that I cannot even begin to explain to you. My first thought in that moment was a verse found in the book of Joshua.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and very courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9, NLT).

Friend, when you have hidden the Word of God in your heart it will overflow into all aspects of your life. Where your treasure is there your heart will be also. Again, I ask you, where is your treasure? What do you hold most valuable friends?

What a good God we serve friends! He is good and He is kind. Even when it feels like we have nothing, if we have Jesus and the Word of God we have everything we could ever need and so much more.

“Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil” (Proverbs 15:16, NLT).

So, store up your treasures in heaven and cling to the Word of our God, friend. He is good and He is kind. Life is loud and full of distractions, but when we have our focus on the right things the noise can get a little less distracting.

I want to leave you with a parable found in Luke 12. This story is known as the parable of the rich fool. It basically follows the story of a rich man who stores up all his riches here on earth and forgets about heavenly things. He neglects the future and spiritual side of things and focuses solely on the earthly things and earthly pleasures. The parable ends with this noteworthy piece of advice,

“Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God” (Luke 12:21, NLT).

Friends, I’m going to ask you the same question one more time. Where is your treasure?

Wherever you have hidden your treasure that is where your heart is, friend. It is so important to understand that we serve a miracle working God, who does what He says He will do. Cling to His Word friends and remember that you are a child of the most high.

Choose your treasures well friends.

Much love friends,

Alianna
